Introduction

In the previous simulation Blend: Latency / Bandwidth Dynamics, we explored how latency and bandwidth behave under different parameter settings in a single-region environment, where all connection latencies were fixed at 50ms.

In this simulation, we extend our analysis to a multi-region environment, mirroring the node distribution in the Ethereum network. This allows us to evaluate whether the Blend protocol meets latency and bandwidth requirements under more realistic network conditions.

Measurement Factors

• Latency: The time taken for a message generated by a node to reach its last blend node.
• Bandwidth: The outbound network bandwidth generated per second by each node.

Realistic Environment

• Node distribution

  • Node are distributed across the following regions. While this definition does not account for all individual countries, it effectively simulates the Ethereum node distribution.
  • North America West: 6%
  • North America East: 15%
  • North America Central: 2%
  • Europe: 47%
  • Northern Europe: 10%
  • East Asia: 10%
  • Southeast Asia: 7%
  • Australia: 3%

• Connection latency between regions: 20ms ~ 400ms

Summary of Results

• The latency results are not significantly different from those in the single-region environment, as the inter-region connection latency is relatively shorter than the delays introduced by Persistent Transmission (~ 2s) and the Temporal Processor (~ 10s) in the Blend protocol.
